Are Resumes DEAD?!
Nov 28, 2019πARE RESUMES DEAD / DYING? πβ
β
If we’re really heading into 2020, why are we still wasting so much time pulling together a resume in Word 2007? Surely Linkedin covers off the main points, right?!β
β
Now, if you are talking about the old-school, typical resume that has an objective section talking about how you’re an ‘excellent team player’ with ‘superb communication skills’, then yes. It’s dead. It’s over.
β
NO WAY can you stand out with those generic resumes in this competitive market. β
But you might want to halt the funeral proceedings because the MODERN resume is SO NOT DEAD. In fact, it’s still one of the most important elements of your job hunt.β
β
Here are just a few reasons why modern resumes are very much alive and kicking:β
β
π Linkedin is generic, talking to anyone who stops by. A resume is your highly tailored marketing pitch for a specific role/company. The right resume showcases your personal brand and can scream “I AM GOING TO BLOW YOUR SOCKS OFF IN THIS POSITION”! β π₯π§¦β
β
π They are a conversation. They link to the parts of your Linkedin, social media, website or online portfolio that YOU want the recruiter to explore.β Bring it to life - link to a video or voice note that quickly explains why you want this role πͺβ πͺβ
β
π They include strategically-placed keywords aligned to the role that gets you past the ATS (applicant tracking system - a screening software used by 95% of Fortune 500 companies). β
β
π They enable you to craft the key messages of your story, perfect for any further video applications, online assessments, and interviews. β
β
The resume is simply changing, not dying. Done right, it can be your biggest shot at showcasing enough fit, hunger, personality and contribution to land the job interview. β
β
More so than ever, the resume needs to be a TWO-WAY conversation and enticing invitation to get to know more.
Stay badass,
